Other Tips

If you’re eager to get in the water, try the Montauk Marine Basin along West Lake Drive. This spot is frequented by a lot of anglers because there are numerous charter operations here that provide a wide array of fishing expeditions, offshore cruisers and head boats. These vessels are commandeered by highly trained skippers who will be glad to help you find whatever fish species you’re after.

Before packing your gear, keep in mind that all anglers 16 years and older have to register with the Recreational Marine Fishing Registry (it’s free). Fishing on commercially licensed fishing boats do not have to go through the Registry, but what is important is you follow the rules for catching the fish and any limits imposed on the area. Good luck and happy fishing!
